Sweet & Sour BBQ Ribs

spare-ribs-2 Serve with potato salad, cornbread, Lucky Crunchy Slaw and collard greens.

Ingredients:  (Makes 8-10 servings)

  • 2 slabs of fresh lean spare ribs
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of sweet pickle juice (optional)
  • 1/3 cup of vinegar
  • 3/4 cup of Delmonte ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red crushed pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 4 cloves of garlic, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 teaspoon of paprika
  • 2 – 2 1/2 cups of water

Directions: Ribs: 1. Wipe off ribs and place in a deep roasting pan   2. Sprinkle salt lightly on meat  3. Put bay leaves on top of ribs  4. Preheat oven at 400 degrees and cook ribs for 45 minutes – 1 hour  5. While still firm, drain off fat  6. Pour sauce on ribs, baste occasionally  7.  Cook  in oven for 2 hours or until meat is tender enough to fall off the bones and sauce is a thick consistency  8. Dip remaining fat from atop of ribs with a large spoon until only sauce is remaining.  Sauce:  Mix sugar, vinegar, pickle juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onions, garlic, red & black peppers, ketchup, mustard, paprika and any other seasonings you feel complimentary to your palette (optional).  Mix in water to desired consistency.

Hi.This is my first time leaving a comment on anyone’s food blog,but I thought it was necessary to comment on not only how flavorful, saucy,and scrumptious your ribs looks,but that I have yet to hear of sweet and sour ribs before.I will most definitely be trying your recipe!I hope mine will be as good as the ones I saw in your post,and if so it maybe a new addition to my dinner menus whenever I want to make ribs with these contrast in flavors.And,I do have to add your drinks are the bomb!They taste great and less filling!lol Kudos PotLuckyCom!

    1. The ribs are so tasty you will be licking your fingers and sucking the bones. The sauce is everything. Let me know how you like it. Remember sugar is according to your taste. Try the sauce before you pour on the ribs and baste as needed. As for the drinks I will keep them coming. Thanks again!!
